On 8th June 2024, the online learners of Chandigarh University Online, who traveled from different parts of the country, gathered on the lush green Chandigarh University campus to attend their convocation ceremony. In the life of an online learner, convocation stands as a significant milestone. After days of pure dedication and staying motivated in a virtual classroom, an online learner steps into the real world. A convocation on the university campus makes it even more special.
This was the second successful in-person convocation held by Chandigarh University Online for its online graduates. A total of 449 online learners were awarded degrees in 21 different subjects, with 303 learners pursuing their degrees through OLM (Online Learning Mode) and 146 learners through ODLM (Open Distance Learning Mode). In total, 398 PG degrees and 51 UG degrees were offered. Among the graduates, 230 learners were awarded degrees in online MBA, 52 learners in online MCA, 35 learners in online M.Sc (Data Science), 23 learners in online BCA, 13 learners in online MA-JMC, etc. Chandigarh University Online will also ensure that the degree certificates are sent to the remaining achievers, who couldn’t attend in person, providing their well-deserved certificates both digitally and in hard copy.
Inspired by the success of the first convocation, online learners, dressed in their best attire, were happy to receive their degrees on the CU campus on the morning of Saturday, June 8, 2024. They took their time to look around the picturesque campus, meet up with their friends, interact with faculty, and wait with excitement to receive their degree.
Soon after they finished the initial process of documentation, students headed to a mega auditorium, all set to receive their degree certificates. The convocation commenced with a procession by dignitaries such as Prof. Dr. Manpreet Singh Manna, Vice Chancellor of Chandigarh University; Prof. Dr. Suresh C. Joshi, Executive Director of Chandigarh University Online; and Prof. Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Associate Director of Chandigarh University Online. The chief guest for this mega event was Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Ropar, and Dr. L. Venkata Subramaniam, Head Of IBM Quantum India Lead, was the Guest of Honour.
Prof. Rajeev Ahuja (Director of IIT Ropar), addressed the online learners and said, “India is growing faster than ever before and this is the best time for all students to grow I have observed that in all the leading academic institutes, most of the students come from families with limited resources and from there they progress. Today Indian students are the best in the world. They have found the best option of online learning as their helping hand to study and it all happened during the COVID-19 pandemic and our Prime MInister Shri. Narendra Modi also emphasized to take the benefit of learning from home. In earlier times, online degrees were not popular to much extent and only some limited institutions provided education through online means. But with the trend of online education, the entire ecosystem of education has changed significantly in recent years. Moreover, he added, everyone must contribute to make the vision of a developed India come true. I urge students to make good use of this degree.
Congratulating the postgraduate online learners and blessing them for their better future prospects, Prof. Dr. Manpreet Singh Manna, Vice Chancellor-Chandigarh University said, “The time has come for each of you to showcase your talent to the world. India has followed the traditional higher education model for half a century, but online education is a sign of revolutionary change by allowing learners to earn and learn simultaneously. The most notable benefit of online education is that those doing PG courses become industry ready on the fly as most of them are already working in the corporate sector and have acquired practical business skills and knowledge.”
For learners who were present on CU campus, the day was filled with delight of walking across the stage, shaking hands with prestigious guests, and receiving their well-deserved degrees. Not only that, learners from various walks of life came together, creating lifelong bonds and memories.
